“If you’re using Windows Vista, you already know it has some great features. Customer feedback helped us make Windows 7 even better. From switching between programs to recording TV, Windows 7 simplifies the way you use your PC — and the way your PC connects with the world.”
Here are descriptions of these and many more features…
Improved TaskBar and Full-Screen Previews
The Taskbar resides along the bottom of your screen. Any program can be pinned, or rearranged by dragging and dropping, to the taskbar for quick one-click launching. Hovering your mouse over an icon reveals a thumbnail of every file/window open in that program and if you hover over a thumbnail, a full screen preview is shown.
Jump Lists
We wanted to keep everything you use regularly at your fingertips. With jump lists you can quickly reach files you’ve recently been working on. Right click a program icon on your taskbar to see all the files you’ve recently worked on in that program. Some programs pre-populate jump lists with common tasks, such as compose an email in your email client or play all music in Windows Media Centre.
Desktop Enhancements
Windows 7 simplifies the way you work with Windows, making opening, closing, rearranging and resizing more intuitive. For example ’snaps’ can snap windows to either side of your screen, allowing comparing windows a breeze – without all that manual resizing.
To see your desktop at any time, move your mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen and all open windows become transparent. If there’s one window you want to switch to, simple grab hold of it and give it a shake – all other open windows will minimize.
Windows Search
As introduced with Windows Vista, click the start menu and enter keywords into the search box. Results returned are now even more relevant than before.
Windows 7 uses ‘libraries’ to make available all files of the same type. For example, all your music may not be stored in your music folder, but spread over various other folders. Libraries pulls all your music together, so you never need ‘lose’ a file again.
Better Device Management
All devices are viewed in one single screen, making it easier to communicate and connect to any device, such as phones, printers, fax machines and other devices. Windows 7 new technology called ‘Device Stage’ enables interaction with any compatible device connected to your computer.
HomeGroup
HomeGroup is a new feature in Windows 7, making connecting pcs to your home network easy. Sharing files across any of your home network is as easy as if all your data was on one hard drive. Similarly, printers are automatically connected to your network.
View Available Networks (VAN)
Windows 7 make connectivity and viewing available networks simple, whether your connections be Wi-Fi, Mobile Broadband, Dial-up or your corporate VPN.
Windows 7 takes the operating system to new levels of simplicity, convenience and ease of use.
